Finnish modern metal band Volucrine have released “Borderline”, the latest single and music video from their upcoming fifth studio album, Chapter V: Renewal.

The album is scheduled for release on September 25, 2026 via Inverse Records, with “Borderline” serving as the fourth and final single released ahead of the record.

Written from a deeply personal perspective, “Borderline” explores the experience of hiding parts of yourself in order to fit into the expectations of others. Volucrine mastermind Jupe Velin says the song grew out of his own experiences of feeling different and having to put on metaphorical “masks” to be accepted.

Musically, the band take a darker and heavier approach than on some of their previous material. Low-tuned guitars, grinding mid-tempo riffs and subtle influences from bands such as Sleep Token and Deftones help create a bleak atmosphere that mirrors the song's themes of loneliness and alienation.

The accompanying video continues the visual story introduced with the band's earlier single “Golem”, once again placing masks at the center of the narrative. The clip follows a man who becomes lost in a winter forest while seemingly drawn forward by the mysterious masks.

With its combination of atmospheric modern metal and surreal visual storytelling, “Borderline” offers another glimpse into the world of Chapter V: Renewal.

Volucrine originally began in 2008 as a personal musical project and have since developed into a Finnish alternative metal collective. Their debut album arrived in 2011, followed by four full-length albums and two EPs.

The band's previous album, ETNA, was released in 2024 through Inverse Records and received international attention. Chapter V: Renewal will continue the group's exploration of personal themes, heavy atmospheres and the idea of rebirth.

Chapter V: Renewal arrives September 25, 2026.
