Founded in 2010, in Athens, Greece, the Heart Attack recently released their sophomore work, entitled “Final Attack”.
Keeping the introductions short, let’s dive in right into the matter at hand. What a great and witty artwork the “Final Attack” has. I had to stare a bit into it to get the grasp of it and notice what was going on, but when I listened to the record and got to the “Bring Metal Back (Final Attack)”, everything made so much more sense. But even at the beginning, when I was clueless about the references, this chaos of metal musicians, samurai, Godzilla, a mastodon and what I presume is Phil Lynott, is incredibly detailed and fun. The idea for this artwork derives from the lyrics of the song “Bring Metal Back (Final Attack)”, and once you listen to the song, you will understand even more about the depictions on the artwork.
Highlights of this release are the lyrical work of mainman George Drimilis, dealing with both Epic themes as well as topics concerning modern social inequalities and warnings of a dystopian world approaching.
As for the musical part, the sound of the Heart Attack can be described by their lyric: “now music must not bring joy”. Mentally and musically the “Final Attack” does not belong in that new music, the joyless and the darker. By finding their roots in the 80s and the 90s metal sound, the Heart Attack revive the uplifting and vibrant heavy metal sound of that era, with fast paced, exciting songs that combine perfectly the epic with the melodic element. Sharp and hefty riffs, punchy bass lines offering a rhythmic basis, melodic guitar lines and shredding solos compose a solid and cohesive sound, that manages both to reveal the band’s musical background and keep the those influences hidden in the compositions. However, in the album’s highlight song, “Bring Metal Back (Final Attack)”, the Heart Attack have, almost, hidden musical Easter eggs, an idea that makes this song all the more exciting.
If you were looking for a pure, undiluted heavy metal experience, filled with nostalgia, but fresh and exciting, then the “Final Attack” by the Heart Attack is the perfect choice for you.
