REDREIGNER: “Redreigner” EP (December 2021, self-release)

Formed in late 2020 by brothers Constantine and Petros Jajas, Redreigner began as a nameless Death Metal project. With the addition of Chris Dovas on drums and Paschalis Christofilos on vocals, the project soon became an official band under the name Redreigner. By December 2021, they finished recordings and they released the self-titled debut EP.

Musically, the “Redreigner” has some heavy metal foundation, with some riffs in the opening track reminding a bit of Judas Priest. Still, they present a solid, quite traditional death metal compositional approach. Groovy, aggressive riffs, at times melodic lead guitars and a few thrash metal influences, compose the sound of Redreigner.

While listening to the record, you realize the traditional death metal influences from bands like the Morbid Angel, At the Gates, Death and Carcass in the Redreigner. The band knows its roots and its background and builds its musical foundation upon this background. Through those influences they introduce themselves while at the same time present their own take and personal musical gaze.

In order to be fair, we should not forget that this EP was produced only in a few months by a band that didn’t have the time to bond and form a sound. And yet, they come through with a work that has both character and their personal artistic signature. Their sound may not be fully developed yet but in these 20 minutes that the EP lasts, the band has proven that they have talent and they are eager to work.

Concluding, Redreigner leave the best first impressions and I can’t recommend enough their debut EP. Their sound might not be fully ripe at the moment but soon enough they will be ready and I am confident that they will unleash a fiery death metal.
