Legendary Deep Purple bassist and vocalist Glenn Hughes has announced that he is stepping away from touring and live performances after doctors advised him to undergo another open-heart surgery.
The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame musician shared the news in an emotional statement, explaining that recent medical examinations revealed the need for another heart operation. At 75 years old, Hughes says his health must now come first.
"Health is my number one priority. I'm grateful to have been chosen with a life full of the gift of music. Thank you for walking beside me."
The announcement also means the cancellation of the upcoming The Purple Daisies show that had been scheduled for October 2 in California.
For more than five decades, Glenn Hughes has been one of rock's most distinctive voices. From his breakthrough with Trapeze, to his legendary years in Deep Purple, and later projects including Black Country Communion, The Dead Daisies, and collaborations with Tony Iommi, Hughes has built a remarkable career that has influenced generations of rock and metal fans.
Although he is retiring from touring, Hughes' statement specifically refers to live performances while he focuses on his health and upcoming surgery.
