Cyanide 4’s third full-length work is an effective album. Structured around a basic and well-known musical recipe, the “Amalgama” manages with simple ingredients to produce a result that is fiery and absolutely exciting. A ripe work from a band that has shaped its own sound and style, the Cyanide 4’s most recent release is an album that will satisfy every fan, whether they are into Glam/Hard rock or not.
If you have never before listened to Cyanide 4 and you wonder what they sound like, I could describe them as an original and true Glam/Hard rock band, inspired by bands like the W.A.S.P, Ratt and Motley Crue. Still, the Cyanide 4 neither copy nor try to imitate, but rather they build their own sound that unavoidably includes some influences.
The song “The Secret Doctrine”, opens the album and sets the mood for the “Amalgama”. A great and vibrant combination of Glam rock with heavy metal elements makes the perfect opening track that introduces the listener instantly and effectively to the sound of Cyanide 4. The heavy metal ideas in the sound of “Amalgama” add heaviness and since it is a Glam rock album, there is distinct rock ‘n’ roll influence as well that produces an even more vibrant tone. Also, in the album there is the song “Not A Perfect Circle” that has a more modern sounding approach that contrasts nicely with the rest of the album and with songs like the “Alter Ego” and “Warlike Fellow”, that have a more direct ‘80s sound.
Supported by the clean production and mix, the “Amalgama” offers a great musical experience, filled with vibrant Glam/Hard rock songs. The Cyanide 4 have produced an album that has no fillers and you must definitely give it a chance, since it doesn’t need more to impress.
