Interview with Andy Rocks: "...my grandfather always told me… Progression is like a tree…" - Stoney Dee

1) Good afternoon! Earliest memory of music, the first song that you recall hearing and also the first song of Andy Rocks. Please recall your memories!

Andrea: I guess singing songs in playschool, I cannot remember anything concrete. The first Song of Andy Rocks was Porcelain Heart.

Stoney Dee: My memories are fading with time… But as time passes I get wiser… I get older but also wiser.

Markus: The earliest? I don´t remember because I am drinking beer sometimes… but I try to remember bands like Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Epica, Evanescence, Exilia.... from Andy Rocks: Get Me A Drink.

2) “Look At What We've Done”, I think, will probably be your best work...after checking the first songs. How do you view it? Is this just a natural progression from what you had previously created?

Andrea: Thank you! Yes, I think it is. You start somewhere, as we did with the EP Porcelain Heart and then you try to get better, write better songs and so on.

Stoney Dee: You know what my grandfather always told me… Progression is like a tree… I never understood it, but now I finally see what it means. Like a tree with all it’s branches our songs are growing and get these tiny little leaves and the longer it takes the more branches are growing and more and more leaves are emerging. Until it’s all covered in leaves and won’t see the little monkeys sitting in the branches anymore… Now you’re asking “What if I want to see these little monkeys?” Then I tell you - cut the fucking leaves. And as soon as the leaves are cut you can see these little guys up there throwing with their poop, mating, eating apples, whatever. And then you say “Hello there little monkey guys”. And they won’t answer because they can’t speak.

Markus: Steadily reflect on your songs but don't forget the first energy, sound and emotions,... and wait, listen, work, hear, and so on…

3) I assume that would be difficult to express this great album, live? What do you think about your live performances?

Andrea: Live performances are rare these days in Germany. We will have more shows in 2022 I think. I am really looking forward to presenting the songs on stage, it will definitely be fun!

Stoney Dee: Of course it will be difficult… And of course it will be difficult if you’re drunk on stage… And of course it will be even more difficult if you’re also high on stage… And of course it would be even more difficult if both of your hands were broken… But if there’s a mind, there is a way… And if there is a way, there might be signs or road signs or way-signs if you want to call it that way… And if there are signs, there has to be a direction you’re going… And if you’re going… then at least your legs aren’t broken.

4) You still have a distinct sound that is exclusive and unique to you. What is your opinion and how do you create songs?

Stoney Dee: My opinion is that everyone should create songs especially women… because equal rights and stuff… you know. And that’s also our inspiration… A world where women and men can walk hand in hand across the streets without being the subject of discrimination.

5) Do you still listen to other bands? I mean, obviously, you have some early influences about the band, but do you still listen to new stuff?

Andrea: To be honest, I mostly find myself listening to my favorite old school stuff (laughing).

Stoney Dee: No. I only listen to my own music and Scandal Rock Band of course.

Markus: Oh yes, all new stuff is inspiration for me, also with other styles… like Chaosbay, Maneskin, ...and  I like really fresh new bands and young bands  - because they are not  perfect but at the beginning often they are a group of energy...

6) Are you open to other musical genres and styles? Maybe to play something different on new projects or just listening to weird stuff?

Stoney Dee: No. I don’t listen to weird stuff… that would be weird.

Markus: I listen to many other styles like punk and so on … but my problem is I forget names...

7) Do you have a favorite live or studio album, for example, that you still go back and listen to?

Andrea: Bon Jovi - These Days! It is their best album, timeless, profound, very mature.

Stoney Dee: Guns N’ Roses - Appetite for Destruction, timeless, profound, very mature.

Markus: W.A.S.P. - Live In The Raw.

8) Who would you say has been the most underrated band of all time? And why?

Stoney Dee: Two Words - Scandal Fucking Rock Band - Wait these are actually 4 Words.

Markus: That s right: Scandal fucking Rock Band with Charly Striegler and frontman Carlo Funderburg.

9) What about your future stuff? Plans for another album or new music?

Stoney Dee: No.

Andrea: No concrete plans yet, let’s see what the future will bring.

10) Do you find it easier or more difficult these days about music?

Andrea: It is easier to produce and record at home and save some money this way. But the live business is harder, especially since Covid.

Stoney Dee: It’s way easier these days… at least for me… back then I wasn’t born and it’s actually pretty difficult to make music if you don’t exist… I guess…

Markus: Each time you have other difficulties - easy is nothing - important is not to forget the fun and inspiration.
- It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll) - (AC/DC)
- Take Me to the Top - (Mötley Crüe)

11) Outside of music, what do you enjoy doing?

Stoney Dee: Masturbating and Music… Oh outside of music you said… Masturbating.

Markus: drinking beer, talking, doing fun trips with crazy people, climbing.

12) Okay, that’s great. Thank you very much and good luck!

Stoney Dee: Thank you too, you beautiful person… and don’t forget to say hello to these tiny cute monkeys in the apple tree.

Markus: Thanks to you!

Andrea: Thank you!
