Another Saturday, another Avatar live stream show and the first fan voted setlist. Namely, the band had asked their fans earlier to vote for the songs from the albums Feathers & Flesh and Avatar Country. (It was the same regarding the other older albums, as well.)
The first part was about Feathers & Flesh which was a really good fable about the battle of the Owl and the Eagle. The show was opened with Regret and we could see Johannes sitting by the piano singing the song in his F&F costume. Then he stood up to join Henrik, Jonas, Tim and John by the other "stage". The evening was continued with House Of Eternal Hunt. The Eagle Has Landed was already included in the previous concert as an "Avatar hit song". The next song was New Land. I really liked the background that had been created using the elements of the music video. Then we could see the "stage setting" of A Secret Door and John behind his drum kit. Actually, it was a little game. The guys entered through different doors playing one-two notes with John at the same time. It was an intro for Tooth, Beak & Claw. Then another favorite, the fast and short For The Swarm came. After that, John played the main role again. Checking the drum kit, he did not seem to be satisfied with it. So, he went to the other drum kit to repeat the checking. The result was not so good. Finally, the third drum kit was the perfect choice. The band could start to perform the song One More Hill. It was followed by Johannes' short speech which led to Black Waters. The "stage" turned into greenish yellowish and Night Never Ending arrived. The next song was When The Snow Lies Red. Before it started, Johannes had read a part of Eat Or Be Eaten from the Feathers & Flesh fable book. The background with a running wolf was quite impressive but I missed that small circus podium on which Johannes had wallowed during the song years ago :)! The set was closed by Raven Wine (the frontman sang it wearing that weird mask that reminded me of some kind of tribal mask).
After a short intermission, Johannes who now wore his Avatar Country costume introduced the second part of the event with a piano accompaniment. Of course, the opening piece was the national anthem of Avatar Country, Glory To Our King. Then the band played Legend Of The King wherein Jonas could show to the audience why his nickname was Kungen. And the gilded throne could not stay out! After the song, two "servants" pushed it with the King to the next "stage" where there was the flying flag of His Majesty's kingdom. Jonas stood up and got another guitar to start the "party" song The King Welcomes You To Avatar Country. After the song, there was a little ceremony and the guys performed A Statue Of The King. Continuing the King's story, it was the turn of King's Harvest. (Its music video is incredible!) Then Johannes explained why Age Of Illusions was the title of the event and how illusions could become reality. The following song was The King Wants You which was played surrounded by the setting of A Secret Door. The last song of the evening was King After King. Then the members left the "stage" expect Jonas who was standing there while the ending credits were rolling. So, there was enough time to "say goodbye" to our King.
In short, it was a time travel to the not so far past evoking two great stories. As the band said: "Two down, two to go!" Tickets can be purchased here: avatarages.com.
